100 Year Celebration

Our troop participated in the worldwide celebration today at Louis Joliet Mall, celebrating the 100 year anniversary of Girl Scouts. At 7:12 p.m. or 19:12 military time, symbolizing the year the organization was founded on the same month and day of the event, the scouts crossed their arms right over left, joined hands and formed the “friendship circle.” Thousands of troops all over the world joined local circles of their own in their respective towns.

The organization was formed March 12, 1912, in Savannah, Ga., with 18 girls and now has a membership of over 3 million girls.

Tortilla Flatz

Today we went on a field trip to Tortilla Flatz in Plainfield. We took a tour of the kitchen, saw how they prepared some food, got a demonstration on making homemade tortillas, and feasted on delicious tacos. We really had a blast and learned a lot in the process!

The Environment

Today we tried to clean up our community by picking up trash in the parking lot and beautified the lot in the process. We also learned about recycling and saving the environment.

Today was the first meeting for Troop #68! We had a fun tea party, polished each other's nails, made necklaces, read books, and in general, got to know our new friends!
